The RSF Senior Center provides senior resource information, educational programs, enrichment classes, and social activities. As a non-profit charitable service organization, there is no membership fee or requirement to live in the community of Rancho Santa Fe to receive assistance or participate in programs.

All About Names

Presented by:
Richard Lederer, PhD.

Almost everyone on earth has a name. Based on his new book, The Joy of Names, Union-Tribune language columnist and best-selling language author Richard Lederer reveals all you need to know about first names, baby names, last names, nicknames, cruel and unusual names, movie stars’ names, presidents’ names, eponymous names, names from myths, authors’ pseudonyms, and other fascinating facts about names.

Richard Lederer is the author of 50 books about language, history, and humor, including his best-selling Anguished English series and his current books, Amazing Words, Lederer on Language, and his brand new The Joy of Names.
Dr. Lederer’s syndicated column, “Lederer on Language,” appears in newspapers and magazines throughout the United States, including the San Diego Union-Tribune, and he is a founding co-host of “A Way With Words” on KPBS Public Radio. He has been named International Punster of the Year and Toastmasters International’s Golden Gavel winner.

Jewelry Workshop:
Creativity Never Goes Out of Style

Enjoy a therapeutically creative jewelry making activity! This workshop will improve fine motor, visual perceptual, and cognitive skills. It’s a workshop that feels more like a party!

2 hours of fun

Skilled instructor, Pnina Gruer, will walk participants through creative design choices and assembling of their necklace.

Materials to make a necklace are included.

There is a $25 fee per person

Pnina Gruer, is the founder of Pacific Beads in San Diego. Pnina has worked in the beads and jewelry business for 33 years. Her experiences in the industry have included selling silver and beaded jewelry to QVC and department stores. Her favorite activity is to host beading parties!

Books, Blockbusters, and the Year We Had

Professor Garrett Chaffin-Quiray will engage participants in a review and discussion of influential movies and books from  1968, 1976, and 1980. Each session will focus on one year in the categories of Oscar Winner, Box Office Winner, New York Times Fiction Bestseller, and Pulitzer Prize in Fiction.

Healthy Aging, Cooking, and Tasting Class

Linda Woods, Registered Pharmacist

Kay Slate, Registered Dietitian, will have class participants sample two easy-to-prepare dishes while learning about the 5 steps to Healthy Aging! Participants also receive a booklet filled with tips for cooking and shopping for 1 or 2, plus 30 delicious and quick recipes that help people follow the 5 steps to Healthy Aging. During this presentation, Linda Woods, Registered Pharmacist, will also give a brief overview of Vitamins and Immunizations needed for a Healthy Lifestyle.

Oil Painting and Drawing A-Z

Create original artwork from life using your favorite medium…

Dawn Harrison, fine artist, will teach you how to mix and blend colors, create impact, and evoke emotion.  Learn to draw accurately while tackling a blank canvas with painterly abandon.  Every three weeks you’ll start a new painting. You will be provided with a variety of high quality art images, ranging in diverse and pleasing subjects.  You’re welcome to paint from your own photos too!  Each class begins with a 30- minute demonstration.  All skill levels are welcome.
