The Tortise and the Hare:
A new approach to hit the golf ball consistently straighter and further.

Presented by:
Nicholas Raulino, DPT
Level 4 PT

Nicholas Raulino, DPT is a Doctor of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy. He has helped people who are 50+ become more active and mobile, avoid risky surgery, and create happier and healthier lives.

The goal of this talk will be to provide information on how mobility and flexibility in the mid back, hips, and ankles will improve a person’s golf game. We all approach fun activities head first (the hare) but, we offer a different approach (tortoise) on how to prepare the body for 18 holes of golf. We all don’t want/need a perfect swing but, we do want to play for many years to come. This talk will cover what every golfer needs in order to keep playing as they age.

Books, Blockbusters, and the Year We Had

Professor Garrett Chaffin-Quiray will engage participants in a review and discussion of influential movies and books from  1968, 1976, and 1980. Each session will focus on one year in the categories of Oscar Winner, Box Office Winner, New York Times Fiction Bestseller, and Pulitzer Prize in Fiction.

The Joy of Names

Presented by:
Richard Lederer, PhD

Richard Lederer, is the author of 50 books about language, history, and humor, including his best-selling Anguished English series and his current books, Amazing Words, Lederer on Language, and his brand new The Joy of Names.
Dr. Lederer’s syndicated column, “Lederer on Language,” appears in newspapers and magazines throughout the United States, including the San Diego Union-Tribune, and he is a founding co-host of “A Way With Words” on KPBS Public Radio. He has been named International Punster of the Year and Toastmasters International’s Golden Gavel winner.

Pnina Gruer, is the founder of Pacific Beads in San Diego. Pnina has worked in the beads and jewelry business for 33 years. Her experiences in the industry have included selling silver and beaded jewelry to QVC and department stores. Her favorite activity is to host beading parties!

Oil Painting and Drawing A-Z

Create original artwork from life using your favorite medium…

Dawn Harrison, fine artist, will teach you how to mix and blend colors, create impact, and evoke emotion.  Learn to draw accurately while tackling a blank canvas with painterly abandon.  Every three weeks you’ll start a new painting. You will be provided with a variety of high quality art images, ranging in diverse and pleasing subjects.  You’re welcome to paint from your own photos too!  Each class begins with a 30- minute demonstration.  All skill levels are welcome.

As we age, we must retain our mobility and flexibility but, most of all, we need to learn how to lift correctly and to do it OFTEN. In order to keep your strength, you must perform the correct strength movements as part of your daily routine.

Still Life Painting Class

Create original artwork from life using your favorite medium…

Dawn Harrison, fine artist, will inspire your personal expression while demonstrating and teaching you modern and old master still life painting techniques. Meet new artist friends and have fun painting lovely objects, fabrics, fresh flowers, fruit, and foliage. A new live Still Life will be displayed each week. All skill levels are welcome.
